Beaches in Alykes Zakynthos Island Greece
Alykes resort is famous for its gorgeous sandy beach and warm shallow waters making it especially safe for families with children. The other beaches found in the District of Alykes are not only sandy but truly scenic with picturesque surroundings and are often uncrowded. Below is a description of each beach and resort in the area.
Alykes Beach
The famous golden sandy beach of Alykes is located in the North East coast of Zakynthos and has been awarded the blue flag for cleanliness. It is ideal for families with small children as the sand shelves gently into the Ionian Sea. Due to the shallow waters around the coastline you can safely paddle a fair distance in the warm clear waters.
Watersports and excursions are available from Golden Dolphin watersports which is located by the jetty.
Alykanas Beach
Located on the north eastern shores of Zakynthos, Alykanas gently curving cove looks out over glass-like waters to the dramatic coastline of Kefalonia. The sandy beach is a continuation of Alykes beach and has the same soft sand and clear waters and offers very safe bathing and are particularly suited to families with children. Completely unwind you as you melt into the sleepy daytime pace, being broken only to perhaps buy some mouth-watering fresh fruit salad from a beach vendor or to sip a refreshing drink on a beach bar terrace. The watersports have now relocated from Alykes to Alykanas, so there are now a whole range of watersports to keep visitors to Alykanas occupied, such as pedaloes, ringos, paragliding, banana boat and much more!
Amoudi Beach
Situated on the north eastern shores of Zakynthos, Amoudi is one of Zakynthos' best kept secrets. Amoudi looks out over glass-like waters to the dramatic coastline of Kefalonia and the village exudes typical Greek charm with dazzling white washed buildings and a very friendly atmosphere.
A blend of traditional Greek character makes this small resort an ideal retreat for families and couples looking to unwind by day and enjoy some spirited evenings in a resort where you can gain a real insight into the local way of life.
The villagers are keen to preserve the perfect simplicity and character that has always ensured Amoudi remained one of Zakynthos best kept secrets. The area of Amoudi remains traditional and unspoilt and there are a handful of tavernas, bars and accommodation in the area.
The beach at Amoudi is sandy being a continuation of the better known beaches of Alykes and Alykanas and has crystal clear waters superb for a refreshing swim.
This beach is ideal for a tranquil and relaxing day as it is not as busy as some of the other beaches in the area and has a sense of serenity.
Xechoriatis Beach
This is a long narrow strip of beach located in the area known as Old Alykanas. It is a secluded beach which is rocky at one end and sandy as it curves round the coastline. This beach does not have sunbeds or watersports and is within walking distance of only two snack bars. The joy of this beach is it is very quiet with only a few people at any time and is very picturesque with stunning views over the Ionian sea and out towards Kefalonia.
Xechoriatis beach is in between Alykanas and Amoudi, so although there aren’t many facilities (mainly just apartments in the area) there are ample shops, restaurants and entertainment in the neighbouring resorts.
Psarou Beach
Located between the resorts of Amoudi and Tsilivi is one of the most captivating scenic spots on the North East coast of the island, Amboula - Psarou.
The village is uncommercialised and therefore still traditionally Greek, you will not find a more idyllic spot anywhere on the island. A quiet and peaceful haven located with magnificent views over the Ionian Sea, where on a clear day you can see out to the island of Kefalonia.
The sandy beach with clear blue sea is the perfect spot for sunbathing and relaxing during the day or you can take a stroll through the unspoilt countryside and experience the natural beauty, flowers and wildlife of the area.
The locals are warm and friendly and there are many typically Greek tavernas offering local, home cooked, traditional Zakynthian dishes.
Amboula Beach
Located along the coastal road between Tsilivi and Alykes is where you will find the quiet and scenic resort of Amboula. This location is for those seeking to get away from it all and is dotted with tavernas and little shops.
The beach is uncrowded and sandy with sunbeds and umbrellas available for hire. Facilities include a taverna and beach bar. The beach is family friendly and offers picturesque views over the Ionian Sea and out across to the neighbouring island of Kefalonia.
